A winter orchard stretches toward the mountains in southern New Mexico, its bare trees arranged in even rows across the open ground. Golden afternoon light warms the trunks and soil, while cooler tones fall across the snow-covered peaks. Low clouds move around the mountains, adding texture and a sense of shifting weather. I photographed this scene in December in the Mesilla Valley area, drawn to the ordered rows, the warm winter light, and the contrast between the orchard and the distant snowy range.
Warm light in the foreground and the colder colors of the peaks create a clear sense of depth and distance.
