A gracious pink flamingo is walking on the water of the Celestun Biosphere Reserve lagoon in Yucatan, Mexico. I captured it mid-stride as it ran across the water's surface, likely preparing for flight. Its vibrant pink feathers with black tips, stand out against the blue water in which it also reflects. A flock of multiple flamingos can also be seen in the background.
The Biosphere Reserve is part of a vast wetland corridor in the west of the Yucatan peninsula and a protected tourist area, and it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. Its mangroves, dunes, and low rainforests are home to a large number of migrating bird species, and it's particularly known for its pink flamingos.
