Description
The powerful waterfall of Kakabeka Falls near Thunder Bay cascades down a rock face into the turbulent Kaministiquia River surrounded by dense forest. On the left, the waterfall appears calmer with a smoother flow, while on the right, mist rises from the force of the water hitting the river below. Lush green trees flank the cascade, and a observation platform can be seen on the left, offering viewers a closer look at the natural spectacle.
This is the second-highest waterfall in Ontario, Canada, with a drop of about 40m (130 ft), and it is often called "the Niagara of the North"
The name comes from the indigenous Canadian First Nations word "Gakaabikaa" - in translation: "waterfall over a cliff"
